Fiscal Responsibility

Oregon is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Wisconsin. In spite of this, and opposed to the desire of most residents to live in a small town, Oregon continues to shower developers with taxpayer money. (See details on Tax Incremental Financing giveaways or the $1 sale of 249 N. Main Street).

At the same time, the Village Board has embarked on an unprecedented spending spree. It’s planning to spend $81,400,092 over the next four years in it’s Capital Improvement Plan. The Board refuses to defer some of these expenses and continues to commit millions of dollars into projects that are nice to have, but not essential.

This spending spree will increase Village debt by half - adding hundreds of dollars to the average property tax bill. It will more than double your water and sewer bill.

The Village Board passed the Street Light and Wheel taxes last year to help cover costs. But that is only the start of the new taxes and fees that will be levied over the next few years. The Village is planning to fund this in a way that does not have to be approved by taxpayers. Your taxes and utility bills will just go up.

Taxpayers need a say in Village spending. Repeal the Street Light and Wheel taxes and go to referendum to determine if the Village should raise taxes or reduce services. Let the voters decide!
